The session highlighted the central role of Data and Digital Twins in driving innovation across the European AI ecosystem, along with the data-driven convergence promoted by the EU Data Union Strategy. Several EU-funded projects—REED, COGNIMAN, SM4RTENANCE, and PSS-Pass—shared challenges and solutions around AI-ready Data Products in the edge-to-cloud continuum, where Autonomous Systems, Data Spaces, and Digital Twins intersect.
Angelo Marguglio and Davide Dalle Carbonare presented the PSS-Pass journey to navigate the Industrial AI Fjord, illustrating how technological constraints can be transformed into new business opportunities. The journey described a structured path from physical products to Product Service Systems (PSS) and ultimately to AI-ready data products, enabled by servitization, AAS-based Digital Product Service System Passports, and trusted data sharing through data spaces.
The session concluded with reflections on next-level autonomy, stressing the importance of advanced software engineering practices and standards—such as AAS, DPP, and data spaces—to scale real-world use cases. These approaches enable broader adoption of data products, AI-enhanced automation, context awareness, and autonomous workflows, accelerating the transformation of raw data into AI-driven business value.
