EU Circularity Cluster Projects

Circman

CIRCMAN5.0

CIRCMAN5.0 focuses on circular design principles that shift away from the traditional “take make-dispose” model, prioritizing reusability, reparability, and recyclability. Through this approach, aim is to foster sustainable practices that contribute to a more resilient and resource-efficient future. It supports the entire modeling and simulation pipeline while evaluating the environmental sustainability of PV systems.

DATA4CIRC

The DATA4CIRC project will establish a digital framework utilising federated data spaces, Digital Product Passports, Digital Models, and AI-assisted Life-Cycle Assessments to enhance the traceability of products and predict environmental impacts of their life cycles. It will focus on three high-impact sectors: agricultural plastics, electronics, and the automotive industry. In all of this, DATA4CIRC will take a human-centred approach, building skills and increasing human involvement through social innovation.

Diameter

DIAMETER

DIAMETER aims to promote the transformation of metal manufacturing by creating an innovative circular economy framework powered by advanced additive manufacturing technologies. The project addresses one of Europe’s most pressing challenges: reducing the environmental impact of the manufacturing sector, which currently accounts for 20% of greenhouse gas emissions in Europe. At its core, DIAMETER will develop an integrated digital ecosystem consisting of two groundbreaking platforms. The DIAgonal platform will provide manufacturers with AI-assisted tools to optimize their production processes for sustainability while maintaining economic viability. The DIAdemia platform will ensure workforce readiness through comprehensive training in circular manufacturing principles.

DIGI4Circular

Digi4Circular

The urgency to address the environmental impact of the prevailing linear economic paradigm has intensified, stressing the need for optimizing resource utilization, minimizing waste, and maximizing product value to achieve ecological and economic benefits. Digi4Circular project tackles these challenges by creating a robust digital workflow for circular product development integrated into the Synera low code platform, demonstrated on aluminium casting use cases in the automotive sector. Through automated workflows, the project facilitates the generation of circular product designs and manufacturing possibilities, contingent on environmental impact assessments for different end-of-life scenarios.

Encircle

ENCIRCLE

ENCIRCLE proposes a novel framework for environmental impact assessment via Digital Twins and Soft Sensors, incorporated in a virtual production line. Utilizing this virtual environment as a simulation and training space for AI, ENCIRCLE aims to:

  • Decarbonize manufacturing, searching for sustainable production configurations and designs that reduce environmental footprint without compromising quality.
  • Train workforce through gamification, cultivating new skills and fostering a new circular mindset.
  • Follow a human-centered design and propose a symbiotic ecosystem of humans and AI through explainable Human-in-the-Loop methodologies.

CIRPASS Logo

CIRPASS-2

CIRPASS-2 will demonstrate functioning Digital Product Passports in real settings through circular pilot deployments and use cases in textiles, electrical and electronic equipment, tyres and construction value chains. With 13 lighthouse pilots, the project will demonstrate functioning DPPs in real settings.  The project will also create a wide community of DPP stakeholders to facilitate the deployment of DPPs in different product sectors, across Europe and beyond.

Cir4Fun

Cir4Fun is a three-year EU initiative, uniting twenty-two partners across ten European countries,
dedicated to revolutionising the furniture industry. It champions circular economy principles
throughout the product lifecycle, from eco-design to repair, reuse, and recycling. The project aims to establish a comprehensive roadmap for circularity, defining the architecture for a Furniture DPP (Digital Product Passport), and promoting sustainable business models and
eco-design guidelines that prioritise product longevity.

DiMAT

DiMAT

DiMAT aims to drive digital transformation in the materials industry by developing advanced technologies for modeling, simulation, and optimization across the entire material value chain: design, processing, and manufacturing. With €4.3 million in EU funding over 36 months, the project brings together 18 partners from 9 countries. DiMAT is delivering three digital Suites, each with three toolkits, to enhance efficiency, product quality, and adaptability to market changes. These solutions will be demonstrated in four pilot sectors: polymer, composite, glass, and graphite, showcasing real-world improvements in key performance indicators and supporting the uptake of innovative research results.
